life is good
Spring is near and the changing of the seasons is a welcome sight. I look forward to the next three-four months and all that the changes the seasons bring.
American Society of Fitness Professionals
ASFP will begin officially meeting this weekend. The future fitness professional in light of potential licensing and having a voice in our national capitol, will be accountable, reliable, document, and have the ability to justify all that is being done. As fitness professionals, it is our professional duty to uphold the profession and lead to the next century. May we all challenge our self to look to the future.

It has been a long time......my apologies. Shirley Sahrmann was the guest on a teleseminar tonight. An amazing Physical Therapist that has written a new book that was just released in November 2011. "Movement System Impairment Syndromes of the Extremities Cervical and Thoracic Spine" The following are a few quotes she stated:
1. Musculoskeletal pain is a lifestyle problem
2. Physical Therapists take care of movement system
3. Body takes the least resistance to motion (or movment)
4. The more spinal flexion the more you can rotate
5. Our role is when pain actually is gone.
I have so much to learn

Club Industry 2011, Chicago, Illinois
Wow.....just returned from Club Industry '11 in Chicago. This was my 7th consecutive year presenting and I could not be more happy with the results. I met some amazing people, made contact with many friends and colleagues and truly felt like the time I spent there was worth the money invested.
The attendance was small but very alert, attentive and brilliant in the interaction, comments, and dialogue. The future of fitness professionals is on the move and I believe like Pat Rigsby has said, "we are in our infancy".
Thanks to all who attended my sessions and for the amazing input.

Synovial fluid
As I wrote the "hip" article to be published soon American Academy for Health and Fitness I ran across some interesting facts.......love this research. Synovial fluid and articular cartilage are a very slippery combination.....3 times more slippery than skating on ice, 4-10 times more slippery than a metal on a plastic hip replacement, and more than 30 more times as slippery as metal on metal using the best petroleum-based lubricant. Face it: synovial fluid is what allows us to flex our joints under great pressure without wear. : ) (healthpages.com. Menopausal Hormone Therapy
Estrogen plus progestin therapy increases the chances of developing heart disease, stroke, blood clots, and breast cancer. ..also doubles the risk of dementia..In fact, it does not protect women against memory loss. Research on estrogen-alone therapy shows it increases the risk for stroke and blood clots but has no effect on heart disease and colorectal cancer, and an uncertain effect on breast cancer. Estrogen alone gives no protection against memory loss. (NIH,U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2006)
